About the Courses

The course is aimed for carers to help them to have an understanding the nutritional needs of children at differing ages and stages of development. The concepts of a balanced nutrition diet from the four main food groups and the importance of the provision of a range of food choices which will encourage healthy food options and offer a range of healthy food options.

Recipes are appropriate to the identity needs of children and will include African, Caribbean, Halal, Kosher, Chinese and all main community dishes.
The course also includes helping children to achieve and maintain a healthy weight.

Learning Outcomes

Healthy lifestyle vision for all children and young people looked after aged 0 -19 years (up to 25 with learning difficulties and/or disabilities or care leavers)

CWCD Standards: Standard1: Understand the Principal and values essential for fostering children and young people 2b) Understanding why it is important to provide care which respects and preserves each child’s ethnic, religious, cultural and linguistic background. Standard 3: Understanding health safety and health care 3a,b,c and d

The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNICEF 1989) The right to: life and healthy development (Article 6), good quality health services and to healthy choices of food and drink (Article 24), information that helps you understand how to stay healthy (Article 24) and protection from dangerous drugs (Article 33)
